Shadow Guardian is without question a hybrid of Uncharted and Tomb Raider. Because Gameloft sells millions of downloads, clearly gamers want to have these experiences on their iPhones and other devices. There's another crucial thing to consider here, too. So, if a developer is going to copy Final Fantasy XIII, perhaps we should be grateful it's one of Gameloft's internal studios that has the resources to make it at least look amazing.

It's been this way since the early days of color mobile gaming, too, with Splinter Cell and Asphalt on basic Java handsets. With thousands of developers within Gameloft, it has the money and the talent to produce some of the best-looking games you've ever seen on a mobile device, such as the recent smashes Spider-Man and Modern Combat 2. No developer consistently puts out polished games like Gameloft. Shadow+Guardian+takes+a+few+cues+from+Uncharted. So even though we may make a joke about Gameloft's running off with an idea, it's clear from their bottom line ($49.4 million for Q3 of 2010, up 15-percent from 2009) that gamers around the world support them doing so. One, this practice is certainly successful because Gameloft is a multi-million dollar company вЂ“ one of the biggest stars of the App Store and all of mobile gaming. But if we're going to chide Gameloft about blatantly emulating these games, let's also be fair about a number of other things. And StarFront: Collision makes no bones about riffing on (or ripping off, depending on your point of view) StarCraft.

Let there be no doubt that Gameloft is aping some PC and console hits here. The most recent batch of Gameloft games in particular have been a target of derision. However, I've noticed the volume on these comments has been significantly turned up in the last few months and with an escalating degree of vitriol.
